YaY - let's take a streaming trip down Memory Lane once we grab a PS4.

Since Sony have managed to acquire the streaming service Gaikai in 2012 for $380 million, it has been speculated that the successor to the Sony PlayStation 3 system will be able to stream PS3 games to the system itself, thus having the processing side of the PS3 games being dealt with on a "cloud system" level, as opposed to the hardware-level backwards compatibility on the PlayStation 2, and the mixed hardware/software-level backwards compatibility on certain launch-day chassis-designed PlayStation 3 systems (simply known to the layperson as the "Phat/Fat" models), and according to the Wall Street Journal snippet:The new technology, to be unveiled Wednesday along with the new console, will allow users to play games delivered over the Internet, these people said. The streaming service, they added, is designed to use current PlayStation 3 titles on the new console; the new device is also expected to play new games stored on optical discs.
So there you have it: apparently cloud-level backwards compatibility is on the cards for the PS3's successor, but as always, Tech Bliss would advise its users to treat rumours "with a pinch of salt".
